What about 25m and he stays here until summer 2018?

Best for all parties if it where to be Chelsea.
How bout £10m loan fee for the rest of the season.

£40m for someone who's not our number one pick for the starting XI?

It's a no brainer.

From a former director of EPL club (and still heavily involved): Don't be surprised to see Dembele go for upwards of £50m next summer if he continues to develop at Celtic. Your biggest worry should be holding onto Rogers, his stock is rising hugely again.

The fact is, Dembele didn't come here to be sold after 6 months. He could have gone somewhere else for good money. Spurs were title challengers last year and they wanted him (might even have won the league if they'd signed him in January).

If Dembele and his agent had a plan to improve his game, then they're not going to chuck it out the window at the first chance of a move. And if Celtic try to force a move against their will, it could backfire on us.

This 100% , I'm of the belief Moussa is pretty well grounded. I think he sees this club as a stepping stone to bigger things but only after a period of development. Nobody seriously thinks I can go to Club X and 12 months later I'll have learned all there is to know about my profession. I hope whatever development period was talked about when he signed is at least a season and a half to two full seasons. By then he'll have hopefully two seasons under his belt domestically with us winning trophies , two European campaigns and some full international caps for France. That would be the time to cash in.

On the Roberts front and previous posters saying using any Moussa Moolah to get him signed. I'd love to think that was a possibility but the boy wants to go back to Man City to try and break into the team. He's been on a development journey with us for the last 12 months one which seems him going back to his parent club at the end of his loan unfortunately. The guy is a joy to watch, I think we've got as much out of the arrangement as Man City and Paddy have. The fact we want to keep him says a lot about how much he's come on under Brendan Rodgers I just don't think he sees himself in the Scottish premiership and I wouldn't hold that against him.

On the Goalie issue, if we lose Gordon today :( we stick with what we've got. Gives DDV a true run in the team (he's only played 5 times for us) and gives us time to find another number 1 goalie to at least challenge De Vries in the summer window. We've got a cushion to end all cushions at the top of the league and don't need to panic buy a goalie now on the 11th hour.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
It's the "his value is likely to increase" part which is the main risk. There's no guarantee of that at all. If the price being quoted is correct, I really can't see that going up by much but it could go down by a lot if, for instance, Moussa gets a bad injury.
You still didn't answer the question - what's the football logic from a Champions League qualifier perspective this year, in offloading Dembele in this window, when there's no financial necessity?
The football logic would be that we can invest the money in the team.

I agree that in an ideal world we'd hang on until at least post Champions League qualification next year and get the same price, but the board needs to weigh up all the risks of both options. My view is that anything over £30 million is a fantastic deal for us and one we're not likely to better. I don't want him to go but that's football.

I'm in the "let Moussa decide" camp. If he feels the offer is too good to turn down, so should we. And, of course, vice versa. What this has shown, as Victor and Virgil showed earlier, is that Celtic is a fantastic club for any young talent to showcase himself to Europe's richest clubs. Please God we use this opportunity and the wealth it brings to become one of them ourselves, although that's never going to happen this side of reconstruction. :(
Totally agree

To the point I can see another club , not Chelsea . Offering crazy money today . He's main headline news across all the major broadcasters and radio. Will be a long day

The Tottenham deal was never put to him as an option since Fulham wanted him on loan until the summer. Tottenham pulled the plug. Celtic nipped in in the summer due to cross-border loophole.

Regardless of how much he wants to develop his game neither Moussa, his agent or Celtic aren't going to refuse a £32m plus offer. It would be insane to do so.

Considering he was nearly a Spurs player a year ago it would be a bit funny, in a Spurs effing up again kind of way.

Chelsea were linked with him as well so them ponying tens of millions of pounds for him would be even funnier.

Moussa's value to EPL clubs is huge as he is 'homegrown' and that's important for the UEFA club trained / association trained list. If they spent £33 million on Batshuayi, who's not looked the part yet, that's where the £34 million is coming from.......

I'll be biting my nails all day and night, praying he at least stays til CL qualification is assured in the summer.....

It's the next step we need to take as a club to put ourselves firmly in the sort of bracket Porto, Benfica, PSV and Ajax have occupied for the last 20 years.
Pretty much.

Football is far too unpredictable and there's far too many variables in play to say 'If he's worth 'x' now, he'll be worth 'y' in [insert timeframe]. You've got to strike when the iron is hot.

It's a genuinely path altering amount of money and if we play our cards right, which I have total faith in Rodgers, it'll take us to that next level with Porto, Benfica ect, as you've said.

I understand concerns about CL qualifications. The main man there isn't Dembele but Rodgers. Going back to Malmo we didn't lose that tie because we lacked a quality striker like Dembele we lost it because we lacked a quality manager.
