BRENDAN RODGERS has urged Celtic chiefs to trust him amid the transfer frenzy surrounding Moussa Dembele.

“Even if a club offered what we thought was the player’s worth now, we don’t need to do it.

“We want to improve and keep developing as a team.”

Rodgers added: “I respect the market in Scotland because it is tough.

“I can imagine that if someone comes in with, say £20million it’s like ‘bloody hell’. I can understand that.

“But if you invest some more time then you can maybe get even more money.” Rodgers is refusing to cash in on Dembele after just six months.

Bought for a £500,000 development fee from Fulham last summer the Hoops could rake in 60 times that, with clubs in England desperate to add firepower for the second half of the season.

But the Celtic boss – experienced in dealing with transfer sagas involving Raheem Sterling and Luis Suarez at Liverpool – will not budge.

He added: “There’s nothing that will change that.

“It’s a testament to him and his team-mates how well he’s done but I said before and without sounding arrogant, I know his value and his worth.

“I’ve been in England and I know the type of money that gets exchanged.

“I hear people talk about players going from certain countries, but the club isn’t buying the country. The value is about the player, it doesn’t matter what league he’s in.”

Rodgers doesn’t believe Dembele will not rock the boat and cause issues over his future.

He added: “What I love about him as a 20-year-old boy is that he lives and breathes football.

“It’s his life and that’s why I think when he leaves Celtic he’ll go on to a big stage.

“Just hopefully not for a wee bit of time yet.”

We've got the perfect guy (Rodgers) handling this situation for us. Dembele will be here another year.

So Rodgers 'believes' Dembele will rock the boat? Who wrote this nonsense? Treat this with the contempt it deserves.

Him toying with the orc at the end is just a sight to behold and another moment for an almighty collection one day. Fantastic. But the best bit? The socks near down to the ankles at the end of it all  :worthy:

And im sure it was on here i read here someone saying they seen him laughing in the midst of it all  That makes me all warm and effin fuzzy all over.

No point taking him back for 6 months if that happened. Better getting the next guy in.

Not that it would happen, of course.

Highly unlikely IMO.....if somebody is prepared to shell out £30million on him in January it's because they are desperate for goals to move them clear of the relegation zone.

Also would be of limited benefit to us to have a 6 month loan-back - we could see the domestic season out quite comfortably (possibly securing the treble in the process) with Griffiths as our first choice and somebody else coming in as back-up....next year's CL qualifiers is where we would be desperate to have Dembele still in our team.

Nectar....his first touch and passing can be absolutely joyous, as well as his finishing. Involved in everything good we did.

Shoutout to Stretch...what a performance and it shines through a video of which he isn't even the subject matter. We absolutely pummelled them that day...still can't get over the number of clear cut chances we created.

Seems contented enough here. Other than the usual transfer window speculation, I haven't seen or heard anything to suggest he's contemplating a move. He's young enough to spend two or three seasons with us and still have a stellar career.

It's not as if we need to raise the money by selling him and we've got a manager, for the first time since MON, who seems to have enough clout to prevent us from doing so anyway.

I expect him to be leading the line for us in next season's CL campaign.

Nope.

For me, the idea of developing a team has to come first.

While money is needed in order to do that, the minute it becomes the main concern, you're just left with another soulless corporate brand.

I'd like to see our best players stay for a minimum of two years. Preferably longer.

If they don't show that commitment to the club, or if the club's not willing to show that commitment to the fans, what the point in supporting them at all?

Anyone who wants him sold this season regardless of the fee, clearly isn't a football fan.

The reality might be that we won't keep these players forever nowadays but I can't understand how anyone who enjoys going to watch Celtic would want to see us lose our star players earlier than 3 seasons, 2 at a push.

There's also the danger of not qualifying next season if we don't get a similar replacement and there goes the 30m.
