Show us what you're made of Pedro and get him signed on a new 5 year deal.
Good point.
Did Zagreb not offer the lad we after a new five year deal? (Even though he's already on a deal to 2020) :o

Just saw the link to his twitter. The pics of those lads playing footie on what looks like spare ground amongst a rubbish tip is pretty humbling. It's no wonder that so many African players have a desire to succeed that many in the West don't.
Well played Moussa.
Scotland used to be the Africa of today when it came to producing football stars. Spare ground was were many of us (at least us auld yins) played the game as kids, and were many Scottish football stars, like many of the Lions, learned their tricks.

As much as I don't want to see him go if the figure being bandied about is correct and we aren't being offered it in tiny increments (personally I would demand it all in one lump sum) then yeah I would take it.

My concern would be that we would squirrel away most of it and squander the rest on trying to find the next bargain basement player when it should really be reinvested in the squad on some solid players that can make us more competitive in Europe and further widen the gap at home.
Why?

He doesn't want to leave and he is under contract for a few years yet.
because it is a lot of money and used correctly could be better for the team as a whole in the long run.
Don't get me wrong I don't want to see him go but this is not some fantasy world where we can afford to ignore big money. This is the model Celtic run, buy low, sell high.

This could be his highest value so it is worth serious consideration. Ideally he stays, his value increases and we sell him for even more in a year or so. However we can't forecast that so we should probably strike while the iron is hot.

Dembele represents a kind of player I think we'll see more of in the coming seasons in the game in general. While there will always be those that jump on the first big offer, there is a growing body of evidence that it can be career suicide for a young player. While they get to enjoy the fruits of a lucrative four year deal, it's spent on the periphery of the first team as those precious, crucial years of development slide by quickly and irreversibly.

Moussa and his advisers have their eye on the long game for sure.
And it's very refreshing, in fact heartening, to see. If as you say, it becomes more the norm then it will seem less so but because Dembele is quite unusual in that he's always got his eye on the long haul then it's a great attitude.

When he does eventually go, then he'll have the best wishes of everyone here, and hopefully he'll take a bit of us with him too.

How likely do you think that this is going to be his highest value? Do you seriously think his value wont increase further?

Sure you can never rule out disaster and a career ending injury, but based on the percentages involved, and the fact that the boy enjoys it here and we enjoy him being in the team, then I don't see why we should accept a bid now. We know that eventually a bid will be accepted and he will leave, but there's no reason why that should be now.

Unless you're being incredibly facetious here, but I doubt that you are.

If you grew roses would you try and sell cuttings or wait until the roses bloom to make the most profit?

:suspect: at anyone who wants to sell at the first offer.

I'd like to see the bon homme here for at least another 2 and a half years. Give us the CL each year, get yer exposure there, improve your game, and leave with happy memories and happy fans always ready to welcome you back when you've exhausted all possibilities.

I'd say that unless an huge offer comes in from the big 6 in England he'll be going nowhere until the summer at the earliest and in all likelihood after the CL qualifiers.

We have him tied on a long contract and actually have a decent manager who was clearly a big draw for Dembele to come here. The guy has already turned down the chance to stay at PSG to seek out first team football. He had better offers than Celtic and he picked us.

He came to play first team football and win trophies and he has the chance to win two more this season. Just don't see him leaving this window.

25-30 million would be good money for him - the difficulty then lies in re-investing in the team. I'm guessing Dembele does not earn the wage of a 30 million pound player or anywhere near. But if we go out and buy 30 million worth of player, how do we fund those wages..

I honestly cannot see the day when we would splash that kind of money on any player.

The good thing is that if we get 20 million plus for Dembele it takes the pressure off in terms of champions league qualification.
