Couple of things I want to throw into the conversation here.

1 - August 1977 - Dalglish to Liverpool - £440,000 - Highest fee ever paid for a transfer in the UK.

2 - Dele Alli is 20 too.

Just saying.

Oh....and Dalglish was 26 at the time.

Is that right about Dalglish? Highest fee? I was always told we got ripped off there.

I really, really want him next season for another crack at the CL and some more hunskelping!

Unfortunately, I think the writing is on the wall and he will likely go for a huge fee this summer. 😢

If there actually is an offer of £25m I'd be surprised if the board would allow that amount of money to be turned down. I'm not saying they'd be right to accept it, but I think they would.

Don't think Dembele would just yet anyway, certainly not to a team at West Ham's level. If he was that desperate to play in the EPL and get the money and 'glory' that comes with it then he'd be there already.

I've always felt we have been ripped off. Felt the same when Charlie left and even more so McClair

Pointless selling in the summer then scrambling around for another striker before the CL.

Even if we were open to the idea of cashing in this month at the right price, there's no chance we would accept 20 Million from the first club that comes in, with 3 and a half weeks of the transfer window still to go.

If we hold onto him until we qualify, we can command even more.

Flip side, if we hold onto him and we fail to qualify, it will decrease our bargaining power.

Aye, some team will try and big on the last day with some daft figure. £30M or something

If we hypothetically sold Dembele in early July, we'd have near 2 months to sign another striker.

With a massive amount of money on the back of the record fee we'd sell him for.

It would actually be worse if we sold him as soon as we'd qualify for the Champions League, with a few days before the end of August.

Guess it depends what the ambition is. If it's to qualify for the Champions League, end of August is perfect. Different story if it's to still be in Europe after Christmas.

Working fine for me. He is saying they want to keep it quiet. Looking at this I think they have made bid of sorts.

Works for me on the Twitter app on Android.

Basically Bilic is being coy and saying to journalists not to throw names at him as he won't answer. Wants to do his business in private. Dembélé isn't mentioned once

Barring Dembele picking up a career-changing injury, we've nothing to lose by keeping hold of him for another 18 months. His value isn't going to go down (and could very well go up if he stars in the CL again next season). The £25 million or whatever teams are offering is still going to be on the table at the end of next season. Hopefully by that time he'll have helped earn us another huge slice of CL money and delivered several more domestic trophies. As well as being a huge kick in the teeth to the fans, it would send out a pretty poor signal about where we are as a club if we decided to cash in on our best player after only half a season. For those reasons, i'm relatively confident that he'll still be a Celtic player beyond this transfer window unless an absolutely ridiculous offer was to come in from somewhere like China.

Agree totally. Best time to sell would be next january. Our biggest time of the season is the very early stages when we've the champions league qualifiers. We need a settled team for that, we can't afford to be bedding in new players. If we sell dembele now it will be a kick in the teeth for Rodgers and we're unlikely to get anyone who is anywhere near as good.
