Technically it was the inside of his instep/heel on his trailing foot. Reality says it was an outrageous piece of skill from a 20 year old who has balls bigger than the entire pantheon of Marvel Superheroes.
That he did it in the 88th minute of a national cup semi final in a pressure game against our clubs supposed biggest rivals says he`s something very special. He could have sat on his arse for 90 minutes and scored that and still been a genius, he didn`t, works his nuts off even when its not going his way.

He brings the ball from the air like Trezeguet. Somewhat languid but very confident. But then he runs with it like Henry. France are lucky to have this guy born there.

What a player this kid is. And I thought Wanyama was a find. Unless there is some kind of clause this guy is going to demolish the Scottish transfer record.

Ok, I'm baffled by everything I have read or heard with my eyes and ears so far on Dembele's finish, from Chris Sutton calling the live proceedings on BT Sport to Gerry McCullough on Clyde 1 SSB, to the Sun and various articles online, including this forum (and there is no grey area on the matter either), that it was a backheel.
I have not heard anybody verbally, or in print, describe his finish correctly as of yet.
His finish was either a sidefoot or sideheel finish. The ball came off the inside foot of his trailing leg, or to be more more precise, the side of his heel if you feel the ball came off the rear inside of his foot. But where the ball never came off, was the back of his heel.
This scenario doesn't even need slow motion replays for backup.
The whole structure of the goal, that being the path of the ball, from when it left Griffiths' foot to Demebele's foot, and Moussa's body position, to the direction that the ball drifted into (in front of Dembele and into the net), defies the logic of a backheel.
Perhaps I'm missing something.....if Albert Einstein was around today, I'd love to have heard his take on this one.
The bottom line is this. We all know what a backheel is the sport of football, and that certainly wasn't one by Moussa Dembele that sank the Huns at Hampden. Maybe something like, "You don't have to be on a bike to do a bicycle kick."

Is it the back of your heel, or the back of your foot? I reckon your heel faces outwards therefore the "back" of your heel is actually the front.

Good to hear, I hope he listens to him.
Moussa Dembele should stay at Celtic and he can become as great as Ronaldo or Raul says Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane
Spoiler: click to toggle BY DAVID MCCARTHY FORMER French superstar admits he's a huge admirer of the Hoops striker and believes he must continue to ply his trade in Glasgow if he wants to go to the top. ZINEDINE ZIDANE last night urged Celtic’s hottest prospect Moussa Dembele to stay at Parkhead for up to two years if he wants to become one of the world’s top strikers. Real Madrid boss and Zidane has watched the sensational rise of fellow Frenchman Dembele - including his two Champions League goals against Manchester City and four goals in two games against Rangers - and believes Europe’s top clubs are eyeing the 20-year-old progress. But the former World Player of the Year is advising the Celt to continue his football education in Glasgow rather than jump at the first chance to leave. Zidane said: “Dembele is one of the most talked about young strikers in Europe at the moment but it has not surprised me at all – I always saw that. “He isn’t just scoring goals, he is scoring big goals, important goals like the one against Rangers. That to me is always the sign of a great player. “I have played with the greatest strikers, Ronaldo, Henry, Raul, and you knew on the biggest occasions they would win you games – and Dembele is already showing that. “It was great for him to score his goals against Manchester City, not just for the result but for him personally. “He will now go into games knowing he can score goals against the best clubs and that confidence does everything for a player of that age. “I hope he can score more goals while Celtic remain in The Champions League, it will be good for him.” Zidane knows Dembele will eventually leave the Scottish champions but the Real Madrid manager is adamant he should be in no rush, He added: “I do understand now that the biggest clubs in Europe are being linked with him and that will be his destination eventually – but my advice now is ignore it all. “He can progress well at Celtic, at a great club who are in Europe, and under a very good coach. “I know his time will come but he needs to make good decisions – and his next at least one or two seasons should be with Celtic.” http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/moussa-dembele-should-stay-celtic-9117752

why did Fulham let this kid go for only £500k? it defies belief They had no choice. He told them he wasn't signing a new deal and at that time he was free to negotiate with potential suitors.
If he had went to an English team they would probably have got a fair few million development compensation. However, because he came to us the development fee was minimal

So, was it a back heel or a side heel?
Seriously though, I just watched a 30 second reply of the goal about 50 times on my phone on loop including the celebration. Feel sorry for the fan wearing the new Away Kit, hope he didn't get huckled out and his new away kit isn't ruined.

I love the replay where you can see a hun with his hands on his head when Griffiths gets the ball down the wing.
