Interesting how fans of all clubs have softened their views on naming rights in recent years. When Mike Ashley floated the idea at Newcastle many moons ago, their fans went absolutely nuts and the plans had to be scrapped. Pretty sure we also had a good laugh at Sevco’s expense when Charles Green was talking about doing it at Ibrox. Seems to have become a commercial reality now. Personally, I think if it helps us bring in better players - and keep hold of existing stars - then it’s worthwhile.
You just reminded me of this.

Before we get to carried away with the idea of Ethiad chucking some sort of sponsorship money our way it's probably worth pointing out that they primarily sponsor clubs owned by City Group. They do have stadium naming rights for Harlequins rugby club (who aren't Abu Dhabi owned as far as I know), but that is only so they can have their logo visible on the stadium roof to half the flights taking off or landing at Heathrow.

An extra couple of million in naming rights would be nice....but no amount of money or success is worth it if the price is selling out to UAE money, changing our name to Glasgow City and our colours to light blue. :ph43r:

….and I know nobody is suggesting that's on the table or in any way desirable. Just pointing out their M-O is to sponsor Abu Dhabi owned clubs buying success rather than get involved with already successful clubs.
I'm not wholly comfortable with the idea of the stadium being renamed to promote Abu Dhabi.
Same. As the Guardian article correctly points out, the Gulf states use these kind of arrangements to 'launder' their image, whitewash their regime, and entrench themselves into British politics at the expense of democracy both here and in the Middle East. I don't want Celtic to take a penny from these people.

More than happy to cash in on any naming rights as long as don't undersell ourselves...it will always be Celtic park or Parkhead to me

To be fair, I think we’ve always been a bit CGAF about it. Half the support calls it Parkhead anyway, and the fishul name is hardly a work of unique creativity.

I’d like to think the club would have a moral line in the sand about what they do take money to promote, but that shop has long since sailed. For all of us, not just them.

Difficult to say what a decent amount would be, given our fairly unique situation and the unquantifiable nature of this type of advertising. Best scenario isn’t to have a couple of competing sponsors, and/or to have some additional stuff in the deal (academy stuff for example).
There's got to be a Company somewhere in the world with the word Paradise in it's name, surely. That would be an acceptable sponsorship to me. Otherwise, keep Celtic Park and forego the measly couple of million.

There is a Persian restaurant in Great Western Road called Paradise. I have sent them an email, let's see what comes of it.

Did they draw this up for real? Is this when they were talking about a casino and hover pitch or whatever?

Presumably the windowless tower block are secure facilities for the fans who believed them?

Not going with the Monchengladbach LED idea then. Shame. I thought that would have looked fantastic on the roofs and the exteriors of the building.

Also, the interior south stand metalwork (including the old press box) could really do with a paint job.

This was on the front page of the Sunday Mail. The double page ‘news’ feature inside was where Murray uttered his immortal “there will be moonbeams tomorrow” line!

I thought it might have been the moonbeams one. Slightly disappointed that they weren't represented in the graphic.

Interesting video. Glad we’re not going with the lights I thought we were as I don’t want Celtic Park turning into Disneyland. Happy with the upgrades, and hopefully the Desso scores a few crackers next season.

To think, all they got was a proposed car park renovation giving them a plug socket and some murals.

Sadly, we have to take the speedboat away, but you've still got your bendy Billy.

Can see the naming rumour being true, with all the modernisation.
Be funny if we were getting most of the upgrades essentially for free, from a new stadium sponsorship.
I suppose that would be a good way of looking at it, stadium sponsorship pays for stadium upkeep & development.
I'd be happy with that +we won't spend this every year, still got Lennoxtown & barrowfield to upgrade too, will they get named?
Delia dome incoming.

Good to see what is going on.
It's good that the club to put this out and keep us informed of what is going on and where the money is being spent.
It saves a lot of "I heard we are doing..." or "Been told by a mate, that..."

Had a quick Google / YouTube search but couldn't see anything showing how Dave King had spent his millions on ground upgrades.

As a clearly ITK Ned Rise says above, he's invested wisely in that extension cord for the car park

We must be getting a few Bob from the rugby mob for hosting the euro final as well. Probably another reason this is being done.
