This site plan shows how the development sits in relation to Celtic Park

This will have opened a new, rich seam of utterly ludicrous "research" activity and FOI requests for the State Aid zoomball. Can't wait.

18m, I'd much rather Celtic were sinking that kind of money into improving our youth set up further or the first team squad.

Seems a lot of money.

In line with some of the chat above about An Gorte Mor..

http://www.celticfc.net/news/13300

TO once again recognise the tragedy of The Great Hunger, Celtic will be wearing the National Famine Memorial Day logo on the Hoops when they take to the field this Saturday for our match against Hibernian at Celtic Park.
Unquestionably, the Great Hunger was a transforming event in Ireland, which changed the demographic and cultural landscape forever. Indeed, there is nothing else in the history of the Irish people that can be likened to the Great Hunger, either for its immediate impact, or its legacy of emigration, cultural loss and decline of the Irish language.
Heather Humphreys TD, Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and Chair of the National Famine Commemoration Committee, announced that this year’s National Famine Commemoration will take place on Saturday, September 30, 2017 in Ballingarry, County Tipperary.
Speaking at the Launch in April 2017, Minister Humphreys said: “This is the first time the National Famine Commemoration will be hosted in Co Tipperary. Each year the commemoration represents an opportunity for the modern generation to remember the devastating impact which the Great Famine had on this country.
“Sadly, the plight of hunger still stalks the world today. Our commemoration of the sufferings of our own past can only strengthen and increase our sense of empathy and understand with those societies afflicted by this scourge in our own era.”
Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “The origins of Celtic Football Club will forever be connected to the Great Famine and it is hugely important that we once again mark this annual memorial”.
“Celtic was established as a force for good, a vehicle to support people in real need, people whose families had previously escaped the devastation of the Great Famine.
“The club’s ethos and traditions are borne from these events and these values of charity and community will never change.
“It is important that we always remember the devastating and lasting affect which the Famine had on the lives of so many millions of people and we are pleased again to play our part in this year’s commemoration."
Surely given Hibs origins , they should be wearing these on their strips as well??

Seems a lot of money.
What specifically could you spend money on that'd improve the youths though? Their training facilities, coaches etc. are as good as we can give them. With the hotel, we must be confident of making a return on it so it'll arguably guarantee additional income each year that we can then spend on the first team etc.

I am no expert in this field but I wouldn't think we would be paying the full £18M. I am guessing the hotel chain involved would pony up some dosh.

Yip. Was just looking at that plan on the GCC site. A lot of area currently derelict will be used for something.

A lot of work and a long way to go, but I think it looks excellent.

Tend to agree with this regarding the youth setup. We spend a comparative fortune on it already which i was dubious about a couple of years ago given that it wasnt producing many players for our first team. It was producing plenty for other first teams but not ours. This seems to be changing now.

Short term thinking.

The club needs as main revenue streams as possible.

The club's statement on this feels a tad non-committal.

http://www.celticfc.net/news/13307

"It is important to emphasise that considerable work and investment over a number of years would be required to bring this project to fruition.

...but we understand there would be a number of challenges to overcome to complete a development of this scale.

...there is still considerable work to be done in bringing such an ambitious project to fruition. However, we will now engage with other relevant parties to assess this potential development."

Undoubtedly this is great news. The entire Club will benefit from a hugely improved infrastructure, and the building blocks will all be in place for whatever is coming re restructuring of the European game, because be in no doubt, that is what this is for.
