My royal Irish arse. It was designed by one of his minions. He personally designed Ipox. It said everything about what he thought of us. It was hideous. |

Archie was well capable of making some ugly shampoo, money or not. The old Sentinel Works at Jessie St in Polmadie is his last non football building left. It`s an A listed eyesore but great for a bit of photography, the window frames are all starting to fall out , I`ve taken a few over the years for different photo challenges. |

Ibrox has a familiar look to it if you walk past the original head office of the 'Prods Only' H&W building in Belfast. |

![]() That top set of windows on the roof (called a "pediment" I think) - were they removed when the roof was replaced in 1971? |

Regards redeveloping the old stand, did anyone see the Spartak game last night? Their main stand has a corporate section that looks really good. If we could do something similar it would be great. How advanced are Celtic's plans to rebuild anyway? Edited by tinytim81, 27 Sep 2017, 11:05 AM.

I think that redevelopment will be very high on the agenda for the Club. There is a real opportunity to increase revenue by bringing in more corporate, family, visitor & general fan involvement. We've made some good progress with the Kerrydale bar, safe standing & the restaurant etc.. The Celtic way looks good. All of these can be developed way more though, a fan zone should be a no brainer to bring guys in earlier or hang around later - even when there isn't a game on. Redeveloping the main stand to include much more corporate opportunities would surely pay for itself? I seen some comment on how much money we pull in from conferences, which Sevco complain about as a missed opportunity from them - we've a big conference room, the hotel will work in with that & bring even more revenue. The Club are doing well to manage the situation, I think they've held back a fair bit of money to go towards all these plans - rather than spunking t all on the playing squad. |

That's actually exactly how top of the range hospitality looks at many modern stadia now along the main stand side, and the revenue it generates compared to Celtic Park is night and day. We fail to do this eventually, it is just yet one more revenue stream we will fall very much behind in. In an environment where the TV deal is terrible, I don't think we can afford to stand still on other fronts. It's actually also how you rebuild the South Stand side of Parkhead to bring it up to the same height, without necessarily filling it with 15-20,000 additional seats that are not needed. It would also have the added bonus of removing restricted view at a stroke from 2000 seats in the East and West corners. Undoubtedly further down the line than the museum and hotel, but has to be part of a longer term capital investment plan for as long as the club remains in good health on and off the pitch. |

Surely a balance can be brought whereby the main stand doesn't look like it has an office block put on top of a section of seats. We also have premium seats and hospitality dotted around the stadium rather than in one stand. What's the demand like? I know from two seasons ago Celtic were struggling to sell season packages for the prawn sandwich section in the main stand, granted many factors were different. Obviously CL brings the exposure, but will all this additional corporate space be utilised for the less glamorous league games? |

As opposed to what exists at present you mean? A quirky Seventies era stand on a completely different rake and height to the rest of the stadium, held up by two massive poles and enormous steelwork roof undercarriage that all impede thousands of existing views, and which looks bolted on to the rest of the modernised stadium? There is greater demand than the supply that exists within the Celtic Park Main Stand at present. That much should be blindingly obvious. In fact, even facilities for non-hospitality seats in that stand - still pretty premium seats - have pretty poor amenities. The fact that you can't get into the Kerrydale Bar on a matchday unless you show up before half 1 shows that there is appetite for more leisure facilities. The hotel and museum will alleviate the need for better facilities to some extent, but its not within the stadium itself, and it is the stadium that is an icon of the club, not something on the periphery. Clubs with modern stadia are coining it in from genuinely Grade 1 hospitality. As I've already said, its not an income stream we can afford to ignore in light of the terrible TV revenue we receive domestically. |

a fan zone should be a no brainer to bring guys in earlier or hang around later - even when there isn't a game on. While I completely agree with you on that one, do you really see a lot of fans hanging round the stadium before/after games if there is no alcohol to watch the early/ evening KO on a Saturday? |

I never stated it was a direct face off between the existing stand and what the spartak main stand looks like. In fact thats precisely my point - surely something can be designed far more in keeping with the rest of the stadium than blunt panes of glass stacked to the roof. I don't dispute that we cannot ignore that our facilities require upgrading, merely suggesting that its a balance between supply and demand and not that we should build as many corporate boxes as we physically can. |

In line with some of the chat above about An Gorte Mor.. http://www.celticfc.net/news/13300 TO once again recognise the tragedy of The Great Hunger, Celtic will be wearing the National Famine Memorial Day logo on the Hoops when they take to the field this Saturday for our match against Hibernian at Celtic Park. Unquestionably, the Great Hunger was a transforming event in Ireland, which changed the demographic and cultural landscape forever. Indeed, there is nothing else in the history of the Irish people that can be likened to the Great Hunger, either for its immediate impact, or its legacy of emigration, cultural loss and decline of the Irish language. Heather Humphreys TD, Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and Chair of the National Famine Commemoration Committee, announced that this year’s National Famine Commemoration will take place on Saturday, September 30, 2017 in Ballingarry, County Tipperary. Speaking at the Launch in April 2017, Minister Humphreys said: “This is the first time the National Famine Commemoration will be hosted in Co Tipperary. Each year the commemoration represents an opportunity for the modern generation to remember the devastating impact which the Great Famine had on this country. “Sadly, the plight of hunger still stalks the world today. Our commemoration of the sufferings of our own past can only strengthen and increase our sense of empathy and understand with those societies afflicted by this scourge in our own era.” Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “The origins of Celtic Football Club will forever be connected to the Great Famine and it is hugely important that we once again mark this annual memorial”. “Celtic was established as a force for good, a vehicle to support people in real need, people whose families had previously escaped the devastation of the Great Famine. “The club’s ethos and traditions are borne from these events and these values of charity and community will never change. “It is important that we always remember the devastating and lasting affect which the Famine had on the lives of so many millions of people and we are pleased again to play our part in this year’s commemoration." |

Building up the way to make the roof the same height all the way round (which isn't the point of the exercise, but improves the aesthetic) means one of two things; thousands upon thousands of non-premium seats that we don't need and would never sell for 95% of games, or building tiered corporate hospitality on a lower tier of seating and potentially fairly limited second tier of club level seats. It doesn't need to look exactly like Spartak's, but even if it did I am failing to see a bigger down side, for all of the reasons I've given. |

I'd say that would be at the lower end of scale. Would depend on the scale of the development. Liverpool spent £75m completely rebuilding their main stand, which did not even include the spend to buy land for it to sit on (which we would presumably not have to do). |
