I done the tour about a month ago and the guide said there was firm plans to re-do the main stand to complete the stadium.

Now given this guy is a Celtic employee, i don't think he'd be openly telling fans that without it being the case.

That thing will age like the facade on Celtic Park. Can't they do something a bit more timeless?
is there anything you don't complain about? FFS , it's a modern 21st Century sports complex. Do you think any modern build football stadium/complex is "timeless"? It's entirely in keeping with The Emirates Complex on the other side of the road, and would look ridiculous if it didn't at least complement that building.

Celtic are aiming for something unthinkable even 10 years ago. Those of us whose memories extend to the dark days of the 60's and 70's coming to CP can barely believe what CP looks like today. After this development, our home Stadium complex will be magnificent. Credit where credit is due. :worthy:

Peter Latchford said that when he drove up to Celtic Park for the first time he thought he was at Barlinne.
Binmen were on strike and the place looked a mess.

Looks like the board have finally accepted ancient Egyptian expertise with the pyramid shape of the new store. I'll be getting my razor blades from there in the future.
Good work.

For various reasons I don't get up to CP much nowadays but there is a bright side to that....I still get the goosebumps when I see the place. I don't see the little faults that some on here do I just see a bloody wonderful stadium for us to watch our lads. We should appreciate it and what the club is doing. It could be worse.....look at that place in Govan!

That bridge was my shortcut to Dalmarnock Road to get a bus. I don't think I fancy scampering up that bank now though.

The new bridge should also be the start of the Jock Stein Way, which would be London Rd from the new clyde gateway Rd to Springfield rd

I don't want to go off track here too much, but did anyone as a child in the 70s walk to the games past Stamford.st onto Janefield.st. If you went too early the local apaches would ambush you at the closes as their parents watched from the balconies. I got my tammy nabbed from me and rattled over the head with an iron bar at age 11. Different days now. My assailants probably live in they bought hooses in the area.

Stamford Street was truly grim.

In fact from as early as I can remember, all of the surrounding area of the stadium was.

Barrowfield and Stamford Street became a dumping ground for all sorts of undesirables, and any decent families suffered. Eventually the Spur and the Torch either got into smack and became a shadow of their former ferocity, or realised the money to be made from selling it, and the area went downhill rapidly after that.

There is footage of it here which I'd roughly date from around 1981/82. Celtic Park looms in the background.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6kTtnytuU0

I'd consider the actual area of Parkhead to kind of start North East of Janefield Street and behind the old Rangers end. The Celtic end bordered Barrowfield as opposed to Parkhead I'd say.

Not quite sure what you'd classify the wee scheme where the Emirates Arena is now on London Road. Parkhead I guess, but maybe Dalmarnock?

Parkhead was unusual as much of it technically wasn't really in what was considered Parkhead by native eastenders.

Can anyone tell me the name of the wee bar that me and pals used to visit on matchdays in the 80's?

Was close to the Celtic End of the .ground, had nae windaes and sat on waste land. Remember being served through a wee wire-surrounded hatch.

Had some very interesting patrons.
