I always thought it was to upgrade the changing room sizes to comply with UEFA/FIFA requirements for hosting finals? Agree for our purposes 60k is enough, but what would the extra capacity be, 8,000 or so? |

The story says the capacity would rise to around 75000. It also says that plans have existed for years and this is an update on the current plans to see what can be done |

There's demand there for premium hospitality in the main stand. I'd like to see the main stand increase from 7k to around 14k in the same footprint but extend the front out to increase media capacity, hospitality and player areas, get that Elite status from UEFA with a bus garage too. A 'normal' seat can generate £650-750 a year for the club once European and Cup games are taken into consideration..... Hospitality can generate 4 times that per seat, even after taking into account costs. So an extra 2000 hospitality seats and 5000 standard seats will generate over £6 million a year extra revenue. Even allowing for a £30 million cost (Hearts new stand is £12 million) the payback on investment time line is probably 5-7 years. |

Know nothing of the cost or feasibility but if they could renovate the interior of main stand, while keeping the exterior facade, and put new media/hospitality facilities at the top that would be ideal IMO. |

Obviously Liverpool will have better facilities than Hearts but the difference in price is still massive. There must have been some amount of engineering and planning involved with extending a stand without actually closing it. If we were to expand the Main Stand would it be cheaper to demolish the current structure and build it from scratch? Edited by Mickeybhoy84, 4 Jun 2017, 03:05 PM.

We don't need a bigger capacity but we do need to upgrade what we have, especially catering and toilet facilities Also public address system and new viewing screens Would be nice to see some fan areas around the stadium as well |

True. It gives another context though to the price of building a 20,000 seat stadium, catering for corporate seats / events and giving itwhatever demands UEFA have. If the board know something we don't this would be a big sign. Not saying they do just thinking out loud. Edited by Adam Smith 11, 4 Jun 2017, 03:31 PM.

Got a feeling there is gonna be a big change in football across Europe in the next few seasons. If plans at potential capacity increase/facility upgrades getting looked at are true, going along with the hotel plans and the club actually recruiting Brendan in the first place tells me the board know of potential change? |

I was thinking about this today. Our revenue comes in four forms. Matchday, Commercial, Broadcasting, Player sales. Unless the new Scottish TV deal is unexpectedly good, our broadcasting income is not going to change drastically. The bulk of this will be made of UCL money. However, in a year or two qualifying for the CL will become even more difficult. Beyond that, the trend is for it to become a closed shop to clubs of smaller nations. Its a horrible thought, but we have to consider a future with rare CL football (and money). Our commercial income is also likely to stay relatively stable. (Sponsorship deals, etc). So with restricted CL money, and a shoddy TV deal, we will need to maximize Matchday income or player sales. We have a potential opportunity over the next two years. With Sevco being rotten, we will have x2 (atleast) free cracks at the CL. An achievable potential of 60million+. We also have a massive asset in Dembele. Potentially a 30-40million transfer. I think using, say 30 million, to invest in an increase in capacity of the stadium to 75,000 would make sense now more than ever. It will give us access to a sustainable increased Matchday revenue. If we took 15million and spent it on x3 5 million pound players, it would (hopefully) help short term with success on the park. But there is a degree of risk there. Every high purchase is a relative gamble. Investing in a stadium increase would give a stable source of increased income. Our matchday income would be almost double the Huns. It would mean we would not be reliant on CL revenue/ player sales in order to keep the gulf between us (if they ever get their house in order). I feel like the potential CL + Dembele money coming our way over the next two years gives us a free shot at doing something like this, without getting into any serious debt. |

Realistically the only time we would fill a 75000 capacity stadium would be CL games and Hun games. Maybe the odd CL play off round game and trophy day/league clincher. |

We could basically just make Season Tickets cheaper in order to fill the stadium. This completely goes against my point of increasing match day revenue, but it would at least give us the potential to increase it (as you said for big games). The point made above about making it corporate is probably more sensible, but the idea of a 75,000 / 'full bowl' stadium just sounds better to me

If we complete the bowl, would we not do so to increase the number of corporate seats in the south stand, as suggested by an earlier poster? |

It'a not as simple as just decreasing the price of tickets and then assuming we will fill 75k seats. Even if you took 100 quid off each season ticket, I doubt you'd get 75k attending very often. That will then make for a stadium not full and with less atmosphere which isn't good. |

I'd love to see us increase capacity for the corporate dollar and also to increase the number of safe standing seats to encourage more young fans. It would give scope to being able to price more fans into coming to games. With a 75k infrastructure Sevco would have a third less income generated form traditional means. That would really be building from a position of strength. Managers and players will come and go but what this would leave in place would be an advantage for a generation at least. |
