DeilaDome & the Murrayfield pitch Ronny raved about.
He wasn't all bad - ideas were good.

Would've been much cheaper listening to Tommy Burns in the first place...

As above, football guys running the football side - genius!
Pity it took so long to catch on, but well done for getting there eventually.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Obscenely priced STs also helps. The cheapest comes in at just over a grand. £97 for a matchday ticket, to sit in a big soulless library. Bargain.

I imagine Spurs will have similar prices when they move in to their impressive new stadium.

I'd love us to bulldoze the main stand and tie it in with the rest of the stadium, but the costs and the disruption it will cause, outweighs the demand for it.
the front of the main stand is a listed building.

in saying that, so was the school so you never know.
Naw it isnae.

Watching limited highlights of kilmarnocks match . Ajer looked quite suspect at corners , more concerned about his man than the ball. Only thing you could take the from the highlights.
Aye but what are Ajer`s thoughts on any s stadium redevelopment?

Peter Lawwell urges politicians to back Celtic's ambitious plans for redevelopment

2 hrs ago / Phil Gordon

PETER Lawwell, the Celtic chief executive, has urged Scotland’s local and national politicians to embrace a more progressive attitude to help the Glasgow club’s ambitions of growth.

Lawwell revealed after the announcement of Brendan Rodgers’ extended four-year contract as manager, that Celtic are still keen to redevelop the areas around Celtic Park and create a commercial zone including a hotel.

However, the chief executive is far from impressed by the response to Celtic’s ideas, despite pointing out the huge contribution the Scottish champions make to the economy.

“Whether in the city or the country, there is a reticence to support us and football,” said Lawwell. “We as a football club put so much into the economy. You need partnership. There has really been no sense of partnership in terms of taking things forward, from anybody.

“The amount of economic contribution we make, not just in terms of our supporters but the rates and PAYE tax we pay to the Chancellor. Particularly in terms of Glasgow, we are a very important employer. I don’t think there is the appropriate recognition of what we do as an industry by politicians. If we had support, I think we could have something special to create a Glasgow sports city here, with the Hydro, and everything else. Something like that would help Celtic and help the city.”

Lawwell explained that Celtic have a planning decision due in August on the club’s commercial proposal. “Seven years ago, we put in a masterplan to Glasgow City Council which included the museum, hotel and residential flats,” he said. “We’ve now bought all the land around here.”

The Celtic chief executive recognised that critics will claim Glasgow could not sanction a commercial move which would benefit only one club.

“That is the nature of this city,” he said. “If you have Celtic who are progressive, say, and Rangers, over the last five years, have been trying to re-establish themselves, we have been looking forward and they have been looking at today and tomorrow and trying to keep going

“The difficulty for politicians is to recognise that Celtic is progressive and to help us because someone is going to say: ‘Well, you are doing that for Celtic. What are you going to do for Rangers?’ Clearly, it is politics and there are votes to be had. People are very wary of doing that. We have come to a point of coping with and dealing with that.”

Smart move from Lawwell (if I say so myself :ph43r: )

AFAIK, the planning process should not be used as some sort of political football, but should be grounded in planning law.
He's alerting the planning legislators on the cooncil, to the fact, that Celtic won't be moribund by political (or sectarian :ponder: ) point scoring, and may also be signalling the club's intention to take this all the way, if necessary.

IMO, this is a key proposal for our future development, as it will bring in to play a revenue source that's not directly correlated to Scottish football.

Here's hoping.

It's also designed to be built on top of so even if we do build the 2nd tier at some point, it definitely won't be getting knocked down to make it mirror the North Stand.

The planning process will be that the application will either be considered and decided by planning officers under delegated powers, or by the councillors. Either way any refusal has to be for planning related reasons. The idea that "club X isn't getting that so Celtic can't" is a planning reason would be more than a little misguided.

Given Lawwell is making these comments I wonder what kind of initial discussions they have had with the Council.

The PA system has had some work done on it over the last few weeks. I know one of the boys who was working on it and he claims to have been shown some drawings for another tier on the main stand.

Realistically that would only ever happen if we gain access to another league, or are contesting champions league quarter finals on a regular basis, which may drive general demand to get to games over the 60,000 mark.

Otherwise it is just a vanity project and look at the huns to see what vanity does to a club long term...

I'd be surprised if that happened anytime soon because the stadium footprint would need to extend over the main stand entrance. Isn't it a protected structure or something?

In saying that, the new hotel and museum are planned to be far enough away from the main stand to allow space for an expansion. :hmmm:

Whatever happens, be it a hotel, a museum, a second tier or whatever, it's just fantastic to see us leading from the front.

It feels like we are taking care of business off the field as well as on it. Looking after the club for future supporters and having a vision for them is very positive indeed. Whether it all comes to fruition is another thing altogether but to be exploring the possibilities generates a real feel-good factor with the club and all of the supporters.

I'd just love to see Parkhead and the surrounding area become a destination in itself and not just solely about the match. A real matchday experience with a museum, a fan zone and a hotel would be just amazing. Wonder if they'd consider an oyster bar? :i_say:

Make it happen Pete. Or else. :arrr:

I'm guessing Lawell is talking about the stuff that's outside of Celtics remit in that article. Things like public transport links require improvement and Celtic don't have much say in those sort of things. What's the point in building World class non match day facilities if the place is a pain in the arse for tourists to get to?
